Thousands of Years and Timeless Applicability
Ayurveda is the world’s oldest recorded system of healing. Used for more than 5,000 years by thousands of doctors on millions of patients, it is a proven system of prevention and healing. Its timeless wisdom is now being recognised and spreading like wildfire amongst the alternative medicine industry because there is no other medicine system as complete and applicable for enhancing all forms of health and healing, including yoga.
The World Health Organisation concluded that Ayurveda is the best medicine system to use in third world countries for chronic disease because of its:
- Low cost and technical needs
- Easier to diagnose the true cause of illness
- Adaptability to any climate
- High ability to educate the patient for self curing principles
- Ability for doctors to use local herbs and remedies more effectively
- Reduced dependence on pharmaceutical products for all illnesses
A Global System of Unified Medicine
ThaiVedic Yoga and many experienced Doctors believe that Ayurveda could be the base of a global medicine system. It can do this because of its common language systems which work to unite all forms of medicine by showing the benefit, weakness and individual applicability of all therapies new or old. Ayurveda clearly shows us the fundamental laws of the universe and how these laws apply to the creation of disease, or once understood, accelerate the healing process. Some of these laws have powerful clashes with paradigms modern medicine in built upon, but are now being recognised and proved by systems like “German New Medicine and The 5 Biological Laws”. These modern realisations and new found systems are only skimming the surface of what has already been discovered and used in Ayurveda for thousands of years.
Ayurveda’s goal is to achieve health by working towards balance and harmony, with a low priority of fighting specific diseases. For therapy it focuses on natural forces such as heat, cold, light, herbs, food, minerals, breath, exercise, and psychological therapies. Prevention is emphasised over cure and they have in depth systems to understand and maintain balance in all areas of life; physical, emotional, mental, environmental, and spiritual unification that crosses the borders of religion.
True Individualised Healing
It is the only system of medicine which recognises 10 different metabolic and psychological body types. Yet most importantly it uses common language systems that link the entire world together and enables us to easily see the root of an imbalance and the ideal areas of life, herbs, diet, and yoga or bodywork therapies which would create balance.
How ThaiVedic Enhances Yoga and Thai Massage with Ayurveda
Two of the most used common language systems in Ayurveda are The 5 Elements and 3 Doshas. Doshas are best to highlight the roots of disease, our individual constitutions, and how the entire world may affect our body and mind. While the 5 elements represent building blocks of life and enhance our ability to recognise balance in any area of life.
In ThaiVedic Yoga we use the 5 elements to understand the 5 different building blocks of yoga therapy and bodywork healing tools. This enables us to quickly understand the benefits and possible side effects of any healing practice or action, and on what people and diseases it may best be used.
“Those who want to practice Yoga as either exercise or therapy, should look to Ayurveda in order to learn how to integrate yogic practices into constitutional measures and individualised disease treatment plans.” ~ Dr David Frawley, renowned Yoga Teacher and Vedic scholar
